A meal with the Archbishop
It was a beautiful gathering of some of our brothers and sisters from the peripheries of the Federal Capital Territory to share a meal and have an interactive session with the Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, Most Rev. Ignatius A. Kaigama. Among those who attended the event were those who took refuge in Sauka, Waru, Wasa, etc, since they became internally displaced from Nigeria’s North East around 2012.
There were also some Gbagyi indigenes in their communities who graced the event. They were accompanied by their priest in charge, Rev Fr. Stephen Mesheda and the Vicar for Pastoral Areas, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Kale.
The Archbishop appreciated those present and urged them to keep striving with every hope that the economic and social situation of the nation will eventually improve. He acknowledged that they too like the rest of us deserve some attention and treatment with dignity and respect as human persons and Nigerian citizens. He also called on the government to do what is possible to cushion the effects of the hard economy. The working population needs the necessary support to maximize their skills and economic capacities.
To the amazement of everyone, the people came with various cultural dances that inspired great joy and communal spirit. They also received some relief materials from the Archbishop.
