13 NEW PROJECTS FOR THE CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF ABUJA

Today, in Abuja, the memorial of St. Catherine of Siena, I blessed the site (referred to as “Papal Ground”) where there is already an ongoing new Cathedral building. Of the thirteen new projects conceived for the Archdiocese of Abuja, ten are to be sited on the “Papal Ground.”

Last year, I made a passionate request of the lay people, priests and religious to make an extraordinary sacrifice for the next five years to enable us, while continuing with the cathedral building, embark on the new projects distributed to 13 parishes.

I have therefore, symbolically handed the projects today to the parish priests, the officers and members of the concerned pastoral councils, in the presence of the technical team members, the Chancellor, the Vicars, the Deans, and others.

These projects are to be supported by our faith, talents, time and resources, as we continue to fervently pray for Divine guidance and grace.

The parishes/bodies entrusted with the responsibility of handling the 13 projects are:

  1. Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, Pro-Cathedral = Archbishop’s House
  2. Holy Trinity, Maitama = Archdiocesan Secretariat
  3. Holy Rosary, Wuse = Fence and Gate
  4. Church of Assumption, Asokoro = Reseource Centre
  5. Christ the King Church, Kubwa = Medical Centre (Medium Clinic)
  6. St. Luke, Kubwa = Block Industry
  7. St. Mary, Karu = Printing Press
  8. Holy Cross, Gwarinpa = Cathedral Rectory
  9. Holy Family, Life-Camp = Catechetical Institute
  10. Twelve Apostles Parish = Spiritual Year Seminary
  11. Ss Peter and Paul, Nyanya = Improvement of Minor Seminary, Kuje
  12. Catholic Bankers of Nigeria = Sick Priests and Retirement Home (Care Centre)
  13. Pope John Paul II Centre = Conference, Retreat and Hospitality Centre.

The resources for these projects are not yet at hand, but let us move forward with faith, dedication, and the knowledge that our endeavours are blessed by God. Together, let us build a future grounded in faith and service.

Most Rev. Archbishop Ignatius A. Kaigama, Archbishop of Abuja.
