Welcome, His Excellency, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria
His Excellency, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, the new Apostolic Nuncio (representative of the Roman Pontiff) to Nigeria was formally welcomed by the CBCN President. The new Nuncio to Nigeria was at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria to present a letter of introduction (Lettera Commendatizia), signed by His Eminence, Cardinal P. Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, to the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, who received it on behalf of all the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria and the Nigerian Church.
Having just returned from the Synod in Rome the night before, I was fortunate to be part of the brief but very significant ceremony this morning.
We heartily welcome the Apostolic Nuncio as a brother and friend, as we did his predecessor, Archbishop Antonio Filipazzi, who is now the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland.
We wish Archbishop Crotty a very successful mission in Nigeria. May the Lord guide your going and coming and bless and fructify the work of your hands. As an Irish man, you will be following in the footsteps of great Irish missionaries who brought the faith to many parts of Nigeria and nourished it to maturity. May your work bring similar missionary fruits. HAVE A VERY HAPPY AND SPIRIT-FILLED MISSION!
