Christmas with the Internally Displaced Persons at Schape, Apo Area, Abuja, FCT.

After the Christmas Day Mass at the Pro-Cathedral, Abuja, we headed to Schape which has been hosting for about 15 years now the internally displaced persons from Goza and Pulka, Borno State. Their joy was ecstatic. Their gratitude palpable. With the Executive Director of our Abuja Archdiocesan Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas Initiative, Fr. Sebastian Sanni and his dynamic team, food items were distributed to the people who demonstrated very deep, heartfelt and sincere appreciation, a gesture that brought tears to my eyes. They were too grateful to have the Archbishop visit them on a Christmas day and in an environment where they think nobody wants to come.
It was a very great encounter with the marginalized at the periphery of Abuja. To God be glory and praise.
I pray the Government will take a deliberate look at the direction of the IDPs in Abuja and do something before their many children born in the IDP camps multiply further and grow into adulthood.
